As some of us get older and we live in a home we love, we start to think about selling the house due to the stairs. I don’t know about you but we have 3 floors in our home and I love my house and neighbors. When my mother, otherwise known as “Bubbie”, she has serious arthritis, visits, she is restricted by our stairs and can only use the main floor of our home. Thinking of Bubbie and our lives as we get older, we are designing a stacked closet system on the 3 floors in our reconstruction of our home. This stacked closet system will then provide space for a new elevator system.
The elevator will provide access to all floors when we get older and we are unable to climb the stairs easily, and for now it will provide access to the whole home to our beloved Bubbie.
If you live in a home and have mobility issues or health issues that limit your access to other floors or areas of your home, contact us to discuss the options. Fine Construction

Here’s something new! Have you heard about Ductless heating and air conditioning systems? Now you can add heat or air conditioning, or both, to any room or multiple rooms in your home without installing ducts to move the air. If you have a room that you would like to add air conditioning to or several rooms that get a little too toasty in the summer months, this is a great system for you! No extensive installations, no unsightly window air conditioners.
BUT, here’s the best part for all you Seattle City Light customers; They will help you upgrade to a Ductless Heating and Cooling System with a $1,200 rebate. Seattle City Light is participating in this regional effort along with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and other regional utilities. Visit SCL’s Going Ductless site to learn more about the program and to see if a ductless heat pump is right for you.

Fine Construction is very excited about a new interesting project we are working on in West Seattle. We are taking down the walls in the middle of the house to open up the floor plan, enlarging the kitchen, installing skylights, enlarging the master suite and doing custom tile for the back-splash and fireplace. We will also install new exterior doors with a new fir front door with lead glass.
Take a look at this PDF that shows the new fireplace tiles and the idea of the design and colors that we are going to use. It is a very personal project and important to us that the client gets what they want here. The client is really excited about the fireplace and the tiles. He fell in love with the tiles after spotting them at a
little neighborhood store, Statements, they are handmade, beautiful, unique tiles. Fine Construction is spending some extra time with this client to ensure they get the design and finished product they are extremely happy with for years and years. This is so worth it us, and we are really enjoying the interaction and excitement that the client is interjecting about the layout design and ideas that we have to make this project unique and specifically designed for them and their home.

Tired of spending your summer staining your deck again? Azek Building Products, in business since the mid 1980’s, began offering Azek decking in 2007. If you need to remodel your rotten deck, create an add-on to your current deck, or even design and create a new one, Fine Construction can help you discover if Azek decking is the best product for you.
Azek decking is made from cellular PVC, a type of plastic, and has many upsides compared to wood and wood composites. Unlike wood, Azek decking is mold and mildew resistant. This is great for Northwest weather! Stain and scratch resistant products like Azek take into account your lifestyle — you aren’t just going to look at the deck, you’re going to use it! Azek eliminates problems like pet damage, grease, food, and drink stains as well as upkeep. Why spend every summer sanding, staining, or painting your deck when you could spend your free time in better ways?
Azek Building Products also commits to sustainability from the corporate offices to the very products they create. Azek decks will last over twenty five years and can even be recycled at the end of their usefulness. Fine Construction is proud to use Azek deck products to continue their twenty-year history of green building.

Fine Construction prides itself on great customer service and customer satisfaction. Just ask our clients…well you can’t do that, we protect our clients privacy, and that’s a good thing. Here’s what you can expect when you hire FINE Construction.
At Fine Construction we value our clients home. From the day we start we have systems in place to protect our clients investment. We install floor protection and we install dust reduction systems. Our true commitment to our clients is not superficial they are true to heart.
We run a clean well managed site with polite and respectful interaction with you and your home, the best professional sub-contractors in the State, great communication, superior material selection, the list goes on. We guarantee you will have the best experience possible through your remodel, addition, renovation and any service Fine Construction provides to your home.
A recent client says; “The place really does look great, and you’ve done a masterful job (well, we knew you would). There are always fubars, and you’ve done everything possible to try and make them non-existent, but that’s impossible! I agree, though, it is irritating when some common sense things don’t happen and people don’t treat a space as if it was their own home. Every sub has had a good attitude and has been very polite to us, at least. Our bringing in treats every now and then doesn’t go near displaying our appreciation for everyone’s hard work.”
Check us out; Fine Construction and give us a call to discuss you next project! 206.938.2300

Our newest project came to us as a deck inspection request with rotten lumber as the main concern. At first glance the decks looked a bit neglected and of poor design from the inception and needing maintenance quite some time ago. Our first step out onto the deck revealed much more than just some rotten lumber, it was unstable and not even safe to walk on.
This project has multiple issues that will complicate a simple deck rebuild. One of the decks is located above a garage that has been leaking in multiple areas. This garage is partially located on a neighbor’s property, which makes this project even more complicated. We asked the neighbor if his garage was leaking also, and yes it was. The neighbor, lucky for us, was amenable to participate in the waterproofing of the roofing decking systems, solving one of the many issues we need to address.
The next issue we needed to deal with is a structural wall that needs to be replaced, yet the budget does not allow this to be completed at this time. There is water saturating the soil behind the wall, so we will have to redirect the water away from the wall as a temporary resolution. Because there are 6 different walls that connect to the multiple decks we had a long day of working on the layout to make it look aesthetically pleasing to the homeowners. We found that that the decks were out of square and in need of leveling which can be solved by installing new framing. We will using Azek decking with a picture frame layout. Stay tuned for Phase II as this project progresses.

Come and see us at the Seattle Home Show 2 coming up starting October 8, Friday thru Sunday the 10th. We are excited being back at the Qwest Field Event Center.
Fine Construction participated for years with the Home Show, take a look at our first Home Show Booth, from 2003. It’s great seeing the progression in booths.
I bought a trade show display booth off eBay and I posted pictures on the display, I used a sink and for people that signed up to discuss their project had a chance in wining a gift certificate. The item that made my booth stick out was the robot from Lost in Space. My brother was into Lost in Space so i borrowed it for the show. It was interesting the group of visitors that where really interested in the robot. Some of the guys, their eye’s lite up and a smile came on their face and all they wanted to talk about was the robot. It worked! It brought people into my booth to talk about the robot and what they wanted to remodel.
The next Seattle Home Show was the 2004 and I hooked up with Windsor One who offers a great line of high quality millwork for the interior and exterior for your home. We received materials and we put together a great booth.
We used this booth for 4 years and ti was great that visitors to the Seattle Home Show can actually see the finished product, they could come up close to touch and feel the millwork and joinery. Brian Kemly of Kemly Electric provided the lighting consulting and recess light installation for the booth.

Not only did we get the brothers and father involved with the Home Show’s but Kathryn, (Tom’s Oldest Daughter) is featured in a video about a project completed on the Fine house. Kate’s love for acting show’s in the video. Sit back and enjoy the Fine Construction Thanksgiving 2006 Video
